These bag trends will be everywhere this summer.

With summer just around the corner, there’s no better way to update your wardrobe than with a chic new handbag. Say goodbye to your black leather crossbody (for now) and opt for a lighter, sunnier bag to reflect the carefree spirit of the season. All on-the-go girls know that a good bag is essential for making it from the beach to brunch on the weekends, and back to the office in one piece on Monday morning. So, whether you're jet-setting for the Fourth of July or darting out of the office on “Summer Fridays,” do it in style. We’ve got you covered with on-trend, runway-inspired styles for less.

1. The Bigger, the Better

Fashion icons obsessed over the mini bag trend in 2019, proving that, in fact, size does matter. This summer, practicality wins with the popularization of the oversized handbag. For the girls who just can’t leave home without an extra pair of shoes or a cosmetic bag, this one’s for you. Look for something you can trust with all of your belongings, from the beach to the office to the airport.

Our Charlotte tote is a favorite among on-the-go girls. It’s big enough to fit more than just your everyday essentials- even your laptop will fit inside this bag. Play this trend in a more sleek and classic direction with a neutral color like grey or black, or go for a bolder statement with colored crocodile.

2. Microbags

Okay, so maybe they aren’t gone yet. As I said before, size does matter, and smaller bags are here to stay as well. These bags dominated Instagram this year in the hands of fashion’s current all-stars: the Hadids, Jenners, and just about every New York-based influencer. However, they’re not always practical for everyday use. Undoubtedly, the mini bag trend is better for nights out when you can leave the house with the bare minimum: some credit cards, your phone, and maybe a lip gloss (the essentials, of course!).

Our favorite mini bag is the Serena. It's equal parts simple and interesting with a structured rectangular shape, crossbody strap, and tassel detail. Colors like black, grey, and tan are perfect for transitioning into fall and winter fashion, or go for a brighter, summery option like mauve. The best part is, it may appear small, but it's mighty: it can fit a lot more than you might think.

  • 3. Woven Textures
  •

This summer, bohemian and natural textures are it. Nothing says Parisian summer quite like a minimalist straw bag. Carefree and lightweight, this trend has been worn by some of fashion’s icons- it gives us serious Jane Birkin vibes. Opt for something earthy and natural made out of raffia, straw, or wicker with sleek trims of vegan leather to make these pieces more sophisticated and structured.

If you want to take this trend for a test drive, try out the Jen pouch in chic gold or silver straw. The metallic touch of this pouch will pair perfectly with any sundress or denim shorts. If you're ready to dive right in, fall in love with the woven Charlotte totes in black or brown straw. You'll get extra credit for this trend with the Charlotte: the bag's body features a woven straw and the signature whipstitched leather of the handle. The newest update on our fashion-loved tote can take you from sand to street as fast as you can change out of your swimsuit.

    4. The Lady Bag

Lady bags, also known as top-handle-bags, have been interpreted all over the runways for spring and summer. Lady bags have been sported by some of fashion’s lates and greats: they were a personal favorite of Princess Diana. Adding a top handle bag to your collection is an excellent idea- they’re a timeless classic and oh-so-versatile. Wear them as crossbodies, wristlets, or strapless by their handle.

We love the Cynthia bag because of its simplicity: its luxe rounded shape and flap bag with many colors and textures to choose from. The detachable crossbody chain also makes this one a winner in our book: nothing is chicer than holding it like a prize by the gold metal handle at the top.

For something girlier, opt for the Athena bag. It’s round and modern with a sleek, adjustable wristlet strap that will pair with any summer look. For those looking for something more transitional into other seasons, try the Marion. It’s a modern take on a bucket bag with a sleek top handle and allover snake print. Wear it as a crossbody or take it for a spin with only the top handle as a lady bag.

    5. Rainbow Brights

Summer fashion would not be summer fashion without bright pops of color. Bright orange, coral pink, kelly green, and cobalt blue — Pantone’s color of the year — dominated the SS20 runways, whether through monochrome looks, standout singular pieces, or accessory details. Especially for those "I only wear black and grey" girls, don't let this bold trend scare you. Before diving into the trend head first, try incorporating a pop of color through your handbag.

Channel Pantone’s color of the year with the Charlotte tote in a bright blue vegan leather. Pair it with airy, white button-downs and distressed denim for the office or rooftop happy hours.

For something smaller, make the Serena crossbody your go-to. We love its simple vegan leather composition in traditional black or tan, but spice it up for summer by toting the bright, candy mauve color. All you’ll need to add are sandals, jean shorts, and a glass of rosé.
